Formula 1 odds, picks, race time: Surprising 2022 Italian Grand Prix predictions, F1 bets from proven model

Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is the third-oldest purpose-built racing circuit in the world and the famed Italian track is the oldest in all of Europe and Formula 1 has an extensive history at Monza. The 2022 Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix will be held on Sunday with the start time scheduled for 9 a.m. ET. The Italian GP has only been held away from Monza four times since 1922 and “The Temple of Speed” has produced some thrilling results over the years.

Daniel Ricciardo won the Italian Grand Prix for McLaren last year and Pierre Gasly won for AlphaTauri-Honda the year prior. However, Ricciardo is a 750-1 longshot in the 2022 Italian Grand Prix odds while Gasly is an even larger 1500-1 underdog. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is the -200 favorite (risk $200 to win $100) in this week’s Formula 1 odds while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is listed at 13-5. Before analyzing the 2022 Italian Grand Prix starting grid and making any Formula 1 picks, be sure to check out the latest 2022 Italian GP predictions and betting advice from SportsLine’s proven projection model.

Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary Formula 1 prediction model simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account factors such as track history and recent results. It’s had a strong history of success in motorsports, correctly predicting seven winners during the 2021 NASCAR season and its projected leaderboards have forecasted winners across multiple racing formats.

The model has been scorching hot when it comes to picking Formula 1 race events dating back to 2021. It nailed both of Leclerc’s wins in 2022, and at the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix, the model was strongly backing Verstappen as its top pick. The result: Verstappen dominated the field and ran away with a surprise victory. The model followed that up by calling Verstappen’s win at the Rolex Emilia Romagna GP in April and then nailed his wins again each of the last two weeks in Belgium and the Netherlands. Anyone who followed the model’s lead on those plays has seen huge returns

Now, the model has dialed in on the 2022 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix and just released its coveted picks and leaderboard projections. You can head to SportsLine now to see the complete 2022 Italian GP leaderboard projection.

Top 2022 Formula 1 Italian GP predictionsOne massive shocker: McClure is fading Verstappen, the race favorite at -200 and the current leader in the Formula One standings. Verstappen has won each of the last four F1 GPs but now he heads to a track that has historically given him big problems. The defending Formula 1 champion has never finished better than fifth in seven F1 races at Monza and his last two attempts at the Italian Grand Prix have been particularly disastrous.

Verstappen was retired in 2020 because of a power unit failure and then was retired again in 2021 when he came together with his championship rival Hamilton in a harrowing crash where Verstappen’s wheel actually made contact with Hamilton’s helmet. Verstappen was fifth-fastest in the first practice session and then second-fastest in the second practice session on Friday, with a Ferrari posting fastest lap in both sessions. See who the model is backing right here.

How to make 2022 Italian Grand Prix picksThe model is also targeting two longshots with odds of 35-1 or longer to make a surprising surge up the leaderboard. Anyone who backs them could hit it big. You can find out who they are, and see all of the model’s F1 picks and predictions at SportsLine.

So who wins the Italian Grand Prix 2022? And which under-the-radar drivers makes a charge towards the front?
